Boston University’s College of Fine Arts offers a rigorous, conservatory-style arts education set within a large research university. CFA was looking for a short video to welcome newly accepted students into their community and excite them about the experience to come. They also sought to highlight how the school’s blend of visual, performing, and liberal arts curriculums inspires students to move beyond traditional majors and glean ideas from diverse fields of study.

Elaborating on CFA’s brand mantra, “We are the Verb,” we filmed players, makers, thinkers, and more throughout CFA. Intimate views of current students working and creating across a range of disciplines were shot to display the collaborative environment and bevy of opportunities available to the incoming class.

In an effort to bolster the online presence of BU’s School of Fine Arts, the school asked that we put together an introductory video based on a common search for high school seniors: “How to prepare a college art portfolio.”

The video, would provide portfolio submission guidelines in a tongue-in-cheek style so that students looking for info could be given solid tips and at the same time be introduced to BU, which many may not have considered an option before.

The Software and Application Innovation Lab is a software development lab within Boston University's Hariri Institute for Computing. In order to attract new students and staff, SAIL reached out to BEEZOO to bring a fresh and visually creative approach to their identity and online presence.

Taking the idea of the combination of visuals and technology, we created an identity system that was visually simple yet offered endless possible iterations. The mark pulls inspiration from international maritime signal flags, also called “code flags,” which are used by ships to communicate at sea. Working off the client request of having a generative element to their identity, we devised the system seen below, which also acted as the new site’s backdrop. The flag customization tool we built in collaboration with SAIL offers visitors the ability to play with SAIL’s identity, letting each individual take the baseline identity and make it their own in a dynamic and engaging way. The resulting patterns become a graphic representation of SAIL’s creative programming work.
